Lent 2026
Journey Together
This past Advent, we rediscovered The Story—the sweeping narrative of how we were Created, Captured, and ultimately
Rescued by a Divine Hero. We saw the “Big Picture” of God’s extravagant love. This Lent, we are invited to go deeper. If Advent showed us the rescue mission, Lent reveals the
meticulous, centuries-old plan that made the rescue possible.
A mission this grand was not a “Plan B”. From the moment of the Fall, God began weaving a tapestry of promises, signs, and prophecies. To truly understand the Hero, we must understand the Jewish Roots of His identity and the ancient words that foretold His coming.
Why Dig Deeper?
The Blueprint: We will explore how the Old Testament isn’t just a history book, but a series of “clues” leading straight to the Cross. The Fulfillment: We will see how Jesus didn’t just happen to show up; He arrived as the exact fulfillment of centuries of longing. The Connection: Understanding the Jewish Roots of our faith transforms the Mass and the Sacraments from rituals into a lived participation in the climax of God’s plan. Join us at St. Mary of the Assumption on Friday nights for our Lenten series on the Jewish Roots of Our Catholic Faith. Let us move from simply knowing that we were rescued to marveling at how God planned our deliverance from the very beginning. Each evening will begin with the Stations of the Cross in the church, where we prayerfully contemplate the passion of our Lord. We’ll then convene in the Fr. Jim Manning Parish Center for fellowship before the featured video lecture by Dr. Brant Pitre, exploring the intricate OT prophecies. Both small and large group discussion will provide for sharing and application to our own faith journey. The evening concludes with optional quiet time in the church for meditation.
