St. Mary of the Assumption SVdP Conference

Volunteer Page

The St Vincent de Paul society was founded in 1833 to serve the poor with dignity, rooted in the gospel. “The Society of St Vincent de Paul recognizes the suffering of human beings and commits to help those in need.” The society exists in 181 countries with approximately 6 million active members.

Mission Statement of the Society of St Vincent de Paul of the United States
The Primary Objectives of the Conference shall be to provide its members opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship and to serve people in need. Conferences are organized primarily to perform person to person service to those in need.

“No work of charity is foreign to the society.”

The Essential Elements of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society are:
1. Spirituality-to bear witness to Christ by showing that the faith of Christians inspires them to work for the good of humanity.
2. Friendship-To bring together people of good will and to assist them by mutual example and true friendship in drawing nearer to the Lord.
3. Service-To establish a personal contact between its members and those who suffer, bringing the most effective and charitable aid possible.

The St Mary Conference Activities

  • Meetings twice a month-the 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 7 pm.

  • Assist our neighbors with rent, utilities bills and referrals for utilities, food and housing. Provide furniture, clothing, cookware, dishes, glassware, etc. Offer referrals for deeper help where desired.

  • Yearly Christmas Gift Fair, providing food and gifts for families in need.

  • Additional special charitable works programs chosen by our members.

Volunteers Needed  Consider joining us by attending one of our meetings on the first and third Thursday of the month at 7-8pm (St. Mary Parish Center).  Our conference is in need of new members to continue our ministry.

We are in need of a new TREASURER.  The St. Mary of Assumption SVdP conference is in need of a new treasurer.  Our wonderful treasurer will continue to serve until Oct 1, 2024.  We would like to have someone in place prior to Oct 1st so Denny can train you.  If God is calling you to this ministry as our new treasurer, please contact Moira Pfeifer at (937) 748-3815.  Thank you.

St. Vincent de Paul often said , “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ.”  It was his way of saying “Imitate Jesus.”

Vincent echoed the thought of St. Paul: “Your attitude must be that of Christ” (Phil 2:5).

A Vincentian attempts to put on the attitude of Jesus, who “did not come to be served but to serve.” (Mk 10:45)

In the spirit of St Vincent de Paul, let’s put our faith into action and help serve those in need.  Thank you!
